The Magic of Draft

Well, now that I'm back on the blogging train, I figure I might as well try to keep some momentum, even if it's just a quick update about the minutiae of my day to day life.

Football kicked off today, which means another season of fretting over which Bengals player scored their lone touchdown. Just kidding, I don't have any Bengals on my fantasy squad. I like winning. I do have Aaron Rodgers, and while he did his usual amazing work, the Packers failed to notch the W. Oh well, I don't worry about that as much as I used too. Fantasy has slowly eroded my loyalty to any one team, as I'm more worried about individual performances. Also, I've been evolving as a Brewers fan for the last couple of years, and they've made me immune to losing.

Football as a whole is less important to me as it mostly takes place on Sunday afternoon, and I have taken up a new hobby that fills that time slot. Drafting Magic at the mall. I know it sounds nerdy, but it's a fun way to spend an afternoon playing games with entertaining people. I'd like to say I'm good at it, but I think luck has more to do with it. I do win on occasion, but i mostly just like the camaraderie. Growing my collection of cards doesn't hurt, either.

That's probably good for today.

Adolesence

Oh hey, Kevin's writing again. And what a surprise, the entry is about his favorite depressing topic: Girls. Specifically the lack of one in my life. Ever.

First some backstory. Last September I began working at Burrachos. There's an entry about that a couple back. This second job made me retire from musicals, and while I didn't miss it, some friends recently twisted my arm into coming back for one more show. Two weeks later I'm not loving the work involved in memorizing dance steps, but it's fun to be around girls again, if only for a few hours every night.

The problem: As is my custom, I seem to have befriended the high school crowd. I know, another shocker. Kevin likes 'em young. Eh, I am who I am. I refuse to apologize for it. It's not like I ever cross the line and actually do anything remotely illegal. Anyhoo, fun as they are, I don't spend all my time with the under 18 crowd. There is one girl who is 20, and today I had the pleasure of having a real conversation with her for about 20 minutes while we waited for our turn to dance. She's nice and has a great smile, and me being the funny guy I am, made her laugh a lot. This made me feel good about myself. Got that warm happy feeling.

Right, back to the point. It turns out she only just started dating a guy a week ago. One she met on OK Cupid. AUGHHHHHH!!!! I have been on that site for years, with no takers even remotely close to Carly. Love is a cruel mistress, not that I would know what love is, as it seems to enjoy hiding from me.

To thicken the plot, she gets me. Thicken isn't really the right word. It's more like twisting the knife. We talked today about what I really need is to find a girl who has the same adolescent mindset as me. I don't mean that in a dirty way, just someone who enjoys the simple things of life, like playing games and goofing off. You know, the stuff we used to do before adulthood got in the way. Maybe that doesn't make much sense, but seeing how no one reads this anyway, I guess it just doesn't matter.

Guess that pretty much closes out this depressing chapter.

My Dad, My Hero

Hey, not a lot of time, but some people have been inquiring about an update, so here it is.

Lately, my car has not been awesome. It has in fact been mildly frustrating. Not to go into too many details, but it sat at BestBuy for a couple of days, while myself and others took turns trying to fix it with little to no luck. Today, my Dad was able to fix it enough to get it back to my house, with only two stops along the way to re-repair it. He thinks maybe he can fix it Sunday, so here's hoping!

Anyway, I wanted to say that my Dad is the best because he came up to Eau Claire on a cold rainy day and basically saved me from having to call a tow-truck. He's a farmer, so he doesn't have a ton of free time, and it just makes me happy knowing he's there for me.

I know you don't read this, but I love you, Dad!

Winning

Hey blogger universe!
I am very frustrated right now. There are very few downsides in my current living arrangement, but there is one very big one. Whenever I try to have a serious discussion/debate with the roomies, it always ends in disaster. The problem is that they refuse to admit that they're ever wrong, and most of the time they resort to non-relevant extreme methods to "win".
One of my favorites was "Boo!" Whenever I'd try to say anything, regardless of how logical it was, the answer they had was "boo". The current method is to throw out something so ridiculously outlandishly false that it makes me throw something just as ridiculous back so that they'll see how stupid they sound. This rarely works, but does have the upside of being an argument-ender, as people usually get too upset to continue. It's just difficult, because I'm actually fond of having serious conversations, just not with people who can't admit they're wrong.

In the less depressing news department, Fantasy Football is going full swing, and Week One looks like it'll be a winner! The Packers had an explosive first game, which would normally be good, but since I have no Packers on my team and my opponent had 3, it wasn't great for me personally. Still happy they won, and the rest of my team managed to pull off a victory anyway.

Also, Mary Ellen hosted Second Saturday this month, and while my family was at a wedding and unable to attend, we still had a decent turn out, and I got in some serious volleyball time.

Importing Hotness

Heeeeeeyyy!

Decided to throw some more knowledge your way. I was working last night (at Kohls), and I made some observations. Ok, actually I only made one observation. All foreign exchange student are better looking than the host family's daughter. There were three separate instances where they came through my line, and it made me want to become a host family...

that's all.

Partnership

Apologies to my loyal followers. All two of you. Seriously folks, I feel bad for promising more, and then dropping you altogether. Let's try and correct this.

Probably be best to start with a few updates. I got the job at Burrachos, and I like it. It's flexible with my scheduling, and it seems easy enough. Hopefully they like me as well, and this is the start of a long and beneficial partnership.

Speaking of partnerships, albeit not long and beneficial ones, things are pretty much done with the OKC girl. It's for the best. She was definitely wanting more on the sex side of things, and since I pretty much draw the line at cuddling, it wasn't going to work out. Curse me and my morals.

I had designs on making this longer, but it's late and I'm drinking.

Update on the OKC Girl

After a very fun weekend, one in which I've made solid headway with a possible girlfriend, I decided it was time for an update.

Saturday, I had the chance to discuss some things with one of my followers. She kind of shocked me by bringing up the subject of The Girl, because I haven't told anyone about her yet. I just feel like jumping the gun might jinx things. Anyway, we also discussed some other things, and I kind of wish we had talked more. On a side note, I bumped into her at Gordy's today while picking up chips for a family get together.

On the subject of the title, we've graduated to texting, and it seems like a possible movie date is imminent. All I know for sure so far is that I've had to empty my inbox once already...

In other news, those of you who follow my facebook feed are also aware that I've recently applied for a second job at Burrachos. The interviews are going well, but I'm not sure it will actually fit with my Kohl's schedule. I'm going to discuss it with my manager tomorrow, but I have a bad feeling that I'll have to tell Burrachos no. Sucky poos.
